teeth may need to be removed or extracted, when they have suffered from an injury or infection that leaves them unable to be repaired, either because of tooth decay, trauma or severe gum disease.
we will always conduct a full check-up of the tooth and your mouth before we suggest the removal of a tooth as being the only viable option and we will also talk to you about what choices you have to close the gap that is left behind once the tooth is removed.
our dentists are really good at removing even the more difficult and broken down teeth.
at our sister practice in cambridge, we are also able to offer you advanced services like wisdom tooth removal and sedation if you are nervous. we can organise a referral to our team there if you feel it will that having your tooth out under sedation would be better if you are very nervous.
frequently asked questions
what happens after a tooth is taken out?
we can talk about different ways of having the gap closed depending on where the gap is, how many teeth are missing and what your budget is. options include bridges, dentures and implants.
i don’t want to have a gap at all – can you put something in straight after removing the tooth?
yes, we can – we can give you a temporary bridge or denture to close the gap immediately but it does come with some cosmetic compromises – the dentist can talk you through all the details if you wish to have this option.
will it hurt?
once we get you numbed up, it will not. of course, you will feel some movement, but it shouldn’t hurt. if you are really nervous we can refer you to our practice in cambridge to have the tooth out under sedation.
